The Therapy Experience

It is difficult for most people to come for counseling because we are all accustomed to try to solve our own problems.  Often, however, we have not learned the skills to resolve specific issues.  Many individuals and couples seek professional help to learn these skills.

Most people find that feeling comfortable with their counselor is an important prerequisite to progress.  I encourage my clients to give me feedback on each session so that I can be more effective.

Initially, I ask you to fill out a basic informational questionaire and a mood survey.  Then in the first session I will ask you to detail the concerns that brought you in for counseling help.  Together we will look at how to change ineffective behaviors and  learn positive skills that facilitate success.  I frequently assign homework to do outside of the therapy session so that the new skills can be practiced in your life setting.

I strive to make the counseling experience both safe and challenging for you.  Counseling should be safe enough for you to reveal your deepest concerns and yet challenging enough to help you grow.

I encourage potential clients to call me for a free phone consultation so that they can get an idea about what we might be able to do together.  Please call 503-254-1533 for a personal consultation.
